Photography at the Guthrie

Photo from the 9th Floor of the Guthrie Theater

A few days ago, My TCP Meet Up group had an awesome opportunity to run wild at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis and take pictures. It was a blast - so many interesting things to photograph! Some photogs even brought models in, and it was fun to watch the pros do their thing.

I'm participating in the Worldwide Photo Walk tomorrow morning. I have not one but two new gear bags now - one is a LowePro Sling Shot camera backpack that I bought specifically to use tomorrow. Can't wait!!!

I have been somewhere fun almost every night for the last week. Ready for a good crash and burn!

Wednesday, we went out to eat at our favorite Chinese restaurant, David Fongs.

Thursday, it was off to see the Twinkies at the Dome, then the Eric Clapton/Steve Winwood concert at the Xcel.

Friday night, we went to a Solstice Party on the top floor/roof of the 26 story Rand Tower downtown:

Saturday, it was the Back to the 50's Car Show:

And Sunday, Father's Day at Rudolph's. Pics for that one to follow.

Time to get back to work!

I hit the nature center yesterday, and the Arboretum today, for a good walk and some camera practice...a wonderful afternoon! All by myself...peace, quiet, no work. :)

Some days, it just rains.

We went to a little fair in St. Paul yesterday called Highland Fest. It rained...then the sun came out...it was hot and muggy. So we wandered around and got a little fair food and got home just in time for another storm and deluge. Some days, it just rains.

Saturday, June 28, 2008

We had the opportunity to attend a cooking class on June 14 at the Embassy Suites hotel. Chef Peter showed us outdoor grilling techniques, and made shrimp, steak, chicken, walleye, salmon and veggies...and we got to sample everything! It was....YUMMY!!!!!!

See a video of our chef here.

Car Show

Mike walked my socks off at the car show this weekend. Fun, but 5 hours on the feet are not conducive to having any energy left at the end of the day. He got his kicks out of the cars and french fries, I entertained myself with the camera!

NSD and a Walk in the Park

National Scrapbooking Day (May 3) has come and gone...I hope you all found some wonderful bargains out there and had fun at all the NSD activities! I know I did!

I was out on a nature walk photo shoot yesterday at the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge. The wildlife was pretty scarce, but it was a sunny, semi-warm day, in the 50's, and I spotted a raccoon and several birds (chased a cardinal around briefly, and chased a flittery, young yellow finch around as well). Here's a layout I did featuring the finch.

April Fool's....a day early......

It's the last day of March .......a time for green grass, tulips and daffodils, even here in Minnesota.....usually. The tulips and mums have broken ground, but for today, we get a taste of winter's last cruel joke.....snowfall that will last well into the day tomorrow. And that's no joke. :(

Minneapolis Bridge Collapse

My layout........from the bridge collapse
Some photos that I received from a friend of the bridge collapse in Minneapolis this week. The journaling says it all:

7:45 pm - My sister called me from Chicago.
You'd better turn on your TV, she said. Your
interstate has collapsed. So I did - and saw the
first of the many horrific images that would
haunt me, my friends and neighbors, and
fellow Minnesotans for hours and
days to come. The Interstate 35W
bridge over the Mississippi River
had collapsed, with no warning,
during rush hour at 6:05 PM.
I immediately thought of my
co-workers, many of whom
cross that bridge on their way
home to the suburbs north of
Minneapolis. The building we
work in sits right on 35W,
making it a popular route for
them. Three of our employees
did in fact go down on that
bridge when it fell; fortunately
two were able to walk away,
one was injured but survived.
The stories and images and
videos were on every TV
station. I couldn't sleep that
night; very few did. Images
of broken concrete and
tangled steel, crushed and
twisted vehicles, injured,
dazed people, frantic
family members, heroic
rescues and survivors,
will remain indelible in
our minds - and will
forever change this city
and state in which I live.

Antique Show

Sunday, we went to the Antique Show in St. Paul. What fun seeing all the goofy stuff from the past...and even more goofy, at our age, to see stuff from when WE were kids. Good grief!! We ARE Antiques!! :)

Here are a couple of shots from our visit. And no, the only thing we bought was a hot dog ;)

Have a good day! Enjoying spring here now!!!

Catching up!

Well, after having been sick for over a month, dental work and another round of a sinus infection, it finally seems like things are going better. Mike and I have been looking forward to spring and some getting out and about!

On March 10, we went to see Ron White in concert...you know, one of the Blue Collar guys. The show was both uncensored and an absolute riot! Couldn't take any photos, though I tried to sneak one in with my cel phone that didn't come out at all. The guy is just hilarious - we enjoyed the show quite a bit!!

Last weekend, I took Mike to the Global Market here in Minneapolis for lunch. It reminds me very much of the markets in Mexico....lots of merchants and places to eat. Trinkets and greasy food! We went to Andy's Garage and split a great burger and fries that were just awesome. Here are some of the pictures I took while we were there:

After the tons of snow we had at the beginning of the month, we are ready for the warm weather. Hoping to get to the zoo and conservatory tomorrow.

Happy Spring....it's here!!!

Wow...it's November!?!

Well, we've been busy with our usual pile of leaves the past couple of weeks. We've even endured a few snow flurries (the first was Oct 14!)

Mike and I did take a trip to the Minneapolis Zoo - my first visit there - on September 26. It was a gorgeous day and a wonderful visit. Here is one of the three SHARKS we saw at the aquarium there:

We also saw the Dolphin show...I absolutely loved it! I'm so glad Mike made me go ;)
Not much else going on, I've been working on opening a new store which should go live next week. More info on that later!!

Love to all!!

Minnesota State Fair

In September, Mike and I went to the State Fair. It was a lot of fun....we walked around, grazed on fair food (corn dogs, fries, chicken on a stick, uffda treats, and sno-cones). We didn't do any of the wild rides (finding our way through the crowds was wild enough!), but we did pay to go into a butterfly room, which was really neat.

Oh and I did get to see Lori and Julia, a couple of my favorite radio personalities here in the cities :)
